Coaches in the POWER program must be prepared to dedicate a significant amount of their time for the betterment of their team. Ontario Basketball regulations mandate specific items and the PYBA enhances that direction with additional requirements. All requirements are designed to ensure that the players have a rewarding and enjoyable experience in this demanding program.
 

Coaches will be expected to do the following: 

1. Complete this application/information (including the creation of a Sports Engine account if you don't already have one) for PYBA records and for use by the Coach Selection and Recruitment Committee.

2. Obtain a completed Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) and ensure that all volunteers who'll be with players on the court or bench during practices or games also have a completed VSC e.g. assistant coaches and managers. Completed VSCs must be provided to PYBA prior to any volunteer participating alongside players in practices, games or team events. PYBA will reimburse volunteers for VSC costs. If required, please contact XXX at XXX.com for a volunteer letter from PYBA for your VSC application.

3.  Complete coaching certification to the proper level, or have a clear plan in place to obtain certification before the beginning of the season in September i.e. confirmed registration for required course(s).

4. Be prepared to conduct two to three practices per week and attend all games. 

5. Select a Team Manager to assist with administrative duties (scheduling, communication, maintain team budget, payments, spirit wear, etc). We want you to be able to focus your energy on what you're passionate about: coaching!

6. Select assistant coach(es) to assist with preparation and execution in practices and games.

7. Attend mandatory pre-season, and periodic in-season, coaches meetings with PYBA representatives.

Note: Stipends available for non-parent coaches, in order to offset associated costs and recognize the investment of time and energy.
